PDF and HTML Articles

About Magnets – ( PDF) – A short overview of magnetic materials and the magnetizing process.

Methods of Magnetizing Permanent Magnets – (PDF 223Kb) – A lengthy and fairly detailed, technical discussion of the magnetizing process. Topics addressed include magnet materials, eddy currents, magnetizing fixtures, magnetizing methods, magnetizing circuits, magnet conditioning, and magnetizer safety. This article was originally presented at the EMCW 2000 (coil winding show).

Calibrating Helmholtz Coils for the Measurement of Permanent Magnets – (PDF 122Kb) Describes how a Helmholtz coil may be easily calibrated by using a known current source and a gaussmeter, an alternative to calibrating with standard magnets. This article also serves as an introduction to the theory and application of Helmholtz coils.

Magnetic Pole Transitions – (PDF 4.6Mb) A discussion of magnetic poles, their transition regions, and general magnetizing techniques. Useful information is also presented regarding ways to sharpen transition regions of magnetized magnets.
